# Taking on a project

> What to do when you are assigned as Project Lead on a deal, from pitch to the start of due diligence.

## Being assigned as Project Lead

You become Project Lead when an admin assigns you at the Pitching stage. You'll receive a notification. Before the pitch, read the entrepreneur's full submission and the Assessor's screening notes in the **Submission** and **Screening** tabs.

## At the pitch

Your job at the pitch event is to listen actively and identify the questions that need answering in DD. During or immediately after the pitch, note:

* What impressed you about the team
* What was unclear or unconvincing
* What the entrepreneur said that needs verifying
* What was not covered that needs to be

<Note>
  **Private notes** — your personal workspace on each project — are available on Pro and Scale plans. On the Free plan, use the project Discussion to share observations with the team, or the Q\&A tool to communicate formally with the entrepreneur.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Use AngelAI after the pitch. Describe what you heard and ask: "Based on this, what are the key things I need to investigate in due diligence?"
</Tip>

## Deciding whether to proceed to DD

After the pitch, the group needs to decide: proceed to due diligence, or decline. The key question is not "do we want to invest?" — it is "do we know enough to justify the time and cost of due diligence?"

Use the **project Discussion** to coordinate the post-pitch conversation with assessors and interested angels. The entrepreneur is not part of the discussion — their channel remains Q\&A.

## Moving to Due Diligence

When the group agrees to proceed:

1. Open the project in AngelHub
2. Click **Move to Due Diligence**
3. A £50 charge confirmation appears — accept to proceed
4. The project moves to DD and the full DD toolkit becomes available

<Note>
  The £50 DD charge applies on all plans including Free. It applies only when a pitch has been made, angels have expressed interest, and a lead investor has been appointed. Projects screened and declined before a pitch incur no per-project fee. The charge is per project, not per investor.
</Note>

## Setting up the DD process

Once in DD:

1. **Review the coverage map** — understand the scope of work across the 11 DD topics
2. **Use project Discussion** to agree responsibilities — contact angels directly and use the discussion threads to coordinate who covers which area
3. **Contact the entrepreneur** — use the Q\&A tool to let them know DD has started and what you'll need
4. **Set a target timeline** — typical angel DD runs 6–8 weeks

See [Running a DD](/project-lead/running-a-dd) for the full process.
